Character Name: Lydia Devon Monroe, she goes by Devon or Dev
Age: 26
Occupation: Law Student
History:
Devon Monroe was born to the Kim and Paul Monroe, and had always been told she could be anything she wanted to be. Part of an affluent family there was certainly not a lack of pampering for her. She had the best of private education until she was sixteen. It earned her the nickname 'princess' in boarding school, and 'wanna be' back on home when she was visiting for holidays. But that sense of privilege was burst in a rather blunt manner by the time she was old enough eighteen.
Her father and mother divorced, and her father moved out of the country completely. He claimed to have grown bored of the family life, finding the constant work for compromise and everyone's happiness to be tedious. What he didn't tell Devon, or her mother, was that he would be taking most of the wealth and never speaking to them except for the odd letter to his daughter. Devon was forced to give up her place at boarding school and entered finished her senior year in public school.
Out of anger mostly, Devon shut down with most people around her- save the odd friend here and there. She focused on school, between finding ways to muster the money for college. She worked hard, but kept people at arms length. As such, few people knew of her mother's terminal illness before the woman's death the year Devon turned twenty three. By then, Devon had saved, scrounged, and muscled her way into the money needed to pay doctors for her mother's care. She told others, afterward, that she simply hadn't had the time to tell anyone.
The truth was she hadn't been ready to admit she was going to lose the last person she had left. Her grandparents were still there, true, but she was not so close to any of them that it made much difference. After her mother's death, Devon once again followed old patterns- she shut people out and focused on getting into Law School, and getting a scholarship or loans. And that was all she focused on until Jordan Novak came into her life.
Personality:
Devon is usually a bit serious. She has, in truth, also had a lot of heart ache as well. Aloof in some ways, she can appear standoffish and arrogant. In other ways she seems sad and lonely, though she often tries to keep that much hidden. A constant learner, she enjoys the Law School because it gives her something to focus on and ways to distract herself from everything else that makes her unhappy.
But, in truth, all of this is really just a mask to hide behind.
